AI in Dental Education: Opportunities, challenges and authentic, ethical use

In this interactive presentation, we will explore what the rise of generative AI and large language models, like ChatGPT, means for dental education and students’ learning. We will discuss what authentic, meaningful and ethical AI use might look like in dental education, and consider how we can take advantage of the learning opportunities offered by AI and protect against the inappropriate use of AI, in the design of assessments and other learning activities.

Dr Jo Elliott is Reader, Learning Design in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. Jo leads the (re)design of programmes and courses within the Faculty to build capacity for designing engaging, inclusive online learning experiences. Jo’s research interests include the role of digital learning in inclusive education and student transition, staff-student partnerships, and communication for behavioural change.
